Why does Windows XP start up slow after installing the My Book

I installed a WD MyBook Essential USB External hard drive on to my Dell Dimension 8200.  The installation went fine and the drive seems to be operating fine as well except when windows restarts.  Everytime Windows is restarted, it takes up to 5 minutes for Windows to come up.  It sits at the "Windows is starting up..." screen for about 5 minutes then finally comes up.  I disconnect the USB cable from the My Book and Windows starts up normally.  I searched around, but could not find an answer.

set the windows image acquisition to disabled and reboot.  Let me know if that speeds it up.

There no software that I know starting from the My Book.  There is software installed that came on the My Book.  If there is software, how do I disable it?
