How to load new PTF's in Mapics XA 6.0, AS400 V5R1M0?

As I said I need to install new PTF's in Mapics XA Rel: 6.0 and AS/400 V5R1M0.  I have no idea I am new.
The ERP Mapics is running on AS/400.

If you can help me in explaining the steps: how to start installing the PTF's in Mapics.  Say I have the download link ready for Mapics PCM or PTF.  I have the file and a cover letter.  Now how to proceed in AS400.   I dont know how to use SAVF file.

Thanks

Praveen:

I either know most of what you need to know or I know very little. I can't tell because I don't know what techniques are used by Mapics for application of fixes.

First unknown involves your use of the term "PTF".

I prefer using that term only when the product is a "Licensed Program Product" (or LPP). LPPs are created by using IBM's software product APIs or using the System Manager product. The standard technique for packaging fixes for LPPs is by using other IBM software product APIs (or System Manager) to generate "PTFs" (or Program Temporary Fixes).

When working with LPPs and actual PTFs, there are widely known and understood actions that are taken. Loading and applying PTFs is essentially the same for every LPP.

However, "PTF" is often used by vendors and customers to mean any fix that is distributed by a vendor, regardless of the technology used. In those cases, the method used to apply the "PTF" has to be described explicitly by the vendor.

The fixes might be distributed on tape, CD, DVD or savefile. A savefile could be obtained by FTP direct from a vendor's server, or downloaded from a web site, perhaps as a .zipped file that needs to be unzipped and uploaded to the AS/400. Or a fix could be nothing more than a document that lists instructions that must be followed manually.

Can you describe something of what you know about Mapics "PTFs"?

Do you have them and need to know what to do with them? Do you need to find out if any exist and then obtain and apply them? Do you have instructions that don't make sense?

Supply some basic descriptions of your actual problem and we'll see if we can ask questions that can guide you.

Initially I was searching for the steps to install the PTF, now I have gathered them.  I have attached the steps for installing the PCM.  PCM is nothing but the package of several PTF's.

These steps may help others.

Thank you.
Praveen.
