Strange DVD audio problem - no dialog in some cases

I have been able to successfully use DVD Shrink to create ISO files and DVD Decryptor to burn them. I could always play either the resulting DVD, or the ISO file when mounted as a virtual drive using WMP.

For some reason, when I do this now, WMP plays the music sound track, but does not play the dialog sound track (that is, the spoken words). However, using Nero to play either the DVD or the mounted ISO file plays both music and dialog. When played through a DVD player connected to a TV, both music and dialog also play.

At first I thought it might be a problem with a missing track, since I had seen that once before when I inadvertently omitted an audio streams. But the fact the the dialog is in fact present for the TV and for Nero shows that the dialog track is not simply missing.

Any ideas why WMP no longer plays the dialog track?

I just discovered, that if I go into Options > DVD > Advanced, and put a check in front of Mixer, the dialog now plays. however, it appears to playing out of sync, ahead of the picture.

So this is progress, but still kind of weird.

I think I have now solved it myself.

During my previous messing around, I changed the Options > DVD > Advanced > Language Settings > Defaults > Audio Language from Title Default to English-US. Now changing that back to Title Default has restored the proper synchronization.

So simply checking the Mixer item turned the audio back on for DVDs and mounted ISOs.

I believe the change in the behavior since the way it worked previously is probably due to installing ffdshow audio.
