Running Outlook 2003, all of a sudden some users when sending out invite does not place a tentative status within calendar before accepting/rejecting?  Users are on different exchange boxes different mailboxes.

Check the free / busy settings in outlook Tools / Options - Calendar Options

Is this exchange 2003?  If so you might want to make sure that both servers are included in the free/busy replica.

Ran the following on the workstations being affected and resolved the issue.

Outlook /cleansniff
Outlook /sniff
