Let me start of by saying this is probably one of the weirdest things I've run into before. I have a couple of users that have encountered this problem. Word works fine for a few days and then some users cannot open word files on the desktop. If you double click the file nothing happens, same result if you right click and then click open. No error message or anything. File associations are correct on these machines by the way. Now the weird thing is if you open Word and then go to file and open and select the file that's not opening from the desktop it opens fine. Once you have opened the file this way you can then open the word file from the desktop like normal again.
