Microsoft Outlook - Why is "show number of unread items and show total number of items" greyed out on the general tab under properties of public folders and favorites in Outlook?

Have  Exchange 2003 w/ SP2 and 2003 / 2007 Outlook clients.  Both clients have this same issue.  A user wants to change this setting but cannot. These selections are greyed out in Outlook, is this by design and if so why? Can they even be enabled and if so, how?

Hi, msandhorst.

Is your Exchange server hosted or does your organization operate it?  What permissions do staff have on the public folders?

ASKER

We host our own Exchange server, I have Enterprise Admin rights and full control of all public folders.  My options are grayed out too.
