Does anything prevent the creation of a linked server to SQL Express 8 from MS SQL Server 2005?  We have successfully created linked server objects to other versions of SQL Server (not MySQL or SQL Express).

Yes it is supported (at least from 2005 to 2005 Express).... all that's required on the remote end is the SQL Native Client OLE DB Provider (SQLNCLI)
