Mac Self extracting .exe file problem

Hi,
My wife downloaded a citrix client .exe file from her employers web site onto her MacBook OS X computer. It may or may not be a self extracting compressed file. When we try to run it this message results: "Unable to determine file format. The file does not appear to be compressed or encoded."

We should be able run a .exe on a MAC right? I haven't been able to find any info on a Mac specific Citrix client, and my wife's employer told her the file was appropriate for Mac, for what that's worth. What should we be looking at here to get this to run?
