Outlook is unable to connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. (0x80042109)

I currently can receive e-mail on my pop.comcast.net account. Until recently I could send e-mail on this account as well. What should I do to correct this and restore my ability to send e-mail?

In your account definition in Outlook, what do you have as your outgoing (SMTP) server ?

The following page from Comcast tells you how to configure your Outlook mail client to retrieve and send email with their service:

Hope this helps,

The Comcast FAQ page you refer to is for use when traveling away from high-speed internet. My SMTP is set as it should be.

I contacted Comcast and was informed the SMTP default had been changed from 25 to 587. In making this change, my problem was solved.
