don't use the Excel object on any server that will get any serious usage, it is not optimized for use with ASP. Instead, OWC (Office Web Components) may be your best bet.

is great run down on how to use OWC to make charts.

Note that MS has an absurd licencing arrangement for OWC, presumably also for the use of Excel/other office DLLs from ASP. Any computer that access you site when it uses these components is supposed to have an Office 2000 licence, so MS says it is impossible to use on a web server for anything other than intranet.
