McAffee How to configure to allow ports , slowness in internet browsing

I have installed Oracle software ( specifically Business Intelligence) on my PC. Everything worked well

When the company installed McAffe, internet connections are strange and slow

When I reboot, theURLs which worked before, displays " page Not found". About, I did not time it, 10 minutes later, the same URL when refreshed works
version: Viruscan enterprise 8.0.0

1. Is there a log where I can find the exact errors ( especially about port settings etc)
2. How to find what is the settings and tweak the configuration

Thanks

Sounds more like you've got a DNS issue rather than a McAfee issue.
VSE 8.0i doesn't install any firewall
Are you the administrator or a user ?  Did you install the software ?

1.  There won't be a log of errors (depends what errors you mean)
2.  Configuration is controlled by the administrator and done from within ePO

I need a bit more information to help you such as operating system, number of clients on the network etc etc

Have you tried using Firefox as a browser, i.e. does it happen in both IE and Firefox, or is it just IE ?

Sounds also like you don't the AntiSpyware module installed, so download and install SuperAntiSpyware from http://www.superantispyware.com and then update it and run a scan to make sure you haven't got any malware lurking about

Let me know

legalsrl,

What is the difference between spyware and virus ware

I did find logs from McAfee central and I also found Port Blocking configuration by adding sites to exclusion list

One piece of information that you may be able to provide is,
When I install a application like Oracle database products, does it overwrite any dll transparently. Subsequent to installing oracle product noticed that McAffe turns off automatically (disables) when computer is rebooted

Thanks

Spyware is stuff like trojans, password stealers, key loggers etc

Viruses are aggressive and spread whereas spyware doesn't

When you say McAfee central, what do you mean ?

Installing Oracle would not overwrite any of the McAfee dll files, but McAfee should not disable itself, I normally put this down to malware, so I would scan in Safe Mode with both McAfee and SuperAntiSpyware

For a standard installation of VirusScan, you should NOT choose the Maximum Protection during installation as that will lock your machine down

You should chose the Common setting as that will protect you against all the nasties as well as stopping viruses from sending themselves from your PC over port 25 - SMTP

What setting did you choose when you installed it ?

It sounds like you went for Maximum Protection

If you did, I'd suggest uninstalling it and reinstalling it using the Common Protection settings

We could change all the settings, but it's actually quicker to uninstall it and reinstall it

Hiya

Yes, if you open Access Protection from the VirusScan Console and see if Common Maximum Protection or Antivirus Maximum Protection are ticked

legalsrl,

When I open Virus Scan Console,
there are 7 items
Access Protection
Buffer overflow protection
on-delivery e-mail scanner
unwanted program policy
on-access scanner
scan all fixed disks
auto update

when I open "access protection", there is no provision for " Maximum Protection or Antivirus Maximum Protection"

could you clarify for me how do I navigate to , where I would see something like "maximum protection"

Thanks

If you open the VirusScan Console, and then double click Access Protection,

you should see

Antispyware Standard Protection
Antispyware Maximum protection
Antivirus Standard Protection
Antivirus Maximum Protection
Antivirus Outbreak Control
Common Standard Protection
Common Maximum Protection
User defined rules

Can you see that ?

Thanks

When I double click on access protection, I only get a screen with
3 tabs, "Port Blocking", "File, share and Folder Protection","reports"

click on "File, share and Folder Protection

I get screen with 2 sections "shares", "files and folders to block"

Thanks
