we have a few users who cant not see external contacts in the GAL
they can see them if they select just external contacts though
and all other users can see the external contacts in the gal
rebuilt it re down loaded etc
any reason?

yes owa is same
yes recreated profiles
in online mode it work s offline it doesnt (thats the problem)
i can see a possible cause
there are a couple of contacts that do show these have email address that exist with in out org the ones that dont show only have there external email address

Ok, let me get something clear - you have couple of contacts created in AD who have internal email address as well as external.
The ones who are having internal ones - are seen in GAL easily (in offline mode)
The ones who are having external ones - are not seen in GAL (in offline mode)
Am i correct here ??

Well, then why not concentrate on checking if Offline address list is actually being generating or simply giving you a slip.
Please increase diagnostic logging on OAL Generator under MSExchangeSA to maximum. This would be found under server properties.
Now, go under recipients - offline address list - default offline address list - right click rebuild.
Check application log for errors - please post here.

Which versions of OL has been tested so far ?
Is it the same condition when OWA is accessed by affected users ?
Have you tried to recreate profiles ?
Switch from offline to native mode of OL ?
