I am looking for Email Archiving 101.. I want to be able to make sure etheir I or my clients are in total compliance.

I was looking at Google's very affordable email filtering and archiving service and it made me wonder what excatly is required to be in compliance.

I did a google search but there doesn't seem to be a everything you ever wanted to know about being in complaine for exisiting or possibly new laws.

Thanks for the help!

Sounds like you need to follow SOX, HIPPA and GLB compliancy, do a search for those using email compliancy, and find the regulations or requirements,
you are looking into some heavy storage.

We normally use Symantec Enterprise Vault for customers since parties such as google are 3rd parties and we don't have full control of data.  EV offerce compiliance and discovery tools that have saved our customers many thousands of dollars in cases of litigitation where previously lawers would do the discovery and/or comliance and now they hire a temp to do it.
