Internet Explorer may be blocking a cookie that Plesk needs to do its authentication. Try a different browser (Firefox to use ajolly's example) or turn the security settings on IE way down or even off. If this works, you know that it's a cookie issue.

We recently upgraded from Plesk 7.5.6, to Plesk 8.6.0. &nbsp;After the upgrade, when trying to visit various web pages, we are now being prompted for a username &amp;&nbsp;password (see screenshot sample).<br />

We are trying to access some ASP pages. &nbsp;The directory that we are accessing, has Anonymous Authentication Access enabled with a username specified. &nbsp;That user has been assigned permissions for the directory as well, but we continue to be prompted for a username &amp;&nbsp;password.<br />

When visiting the page, and entering the server's administrator login details into the prompt, we are able to access any pages that we were not able to access previously.<br />
<br />
Wondering how we can correct this, without having the files authenticate with administrator rights.<br />

ASP Page Authentication Issue

Windows Server 2003 was based on Windows XP and was released in four editions: Web, Standard, Enterprise and Datacenter. It also had derivative versions for clusters, storage and Microsoft’s Small Business Server. Important upgrades included integrating Internet Information Services (IIS), improvements to Active Directory (AD) and Group Policy (GP), and the migration to Automated System Recovery (ASR).

Windows Server 2003

Active Server Pages (ASP) is Microsoft’s first server-side engine for dynamic web pages. ASP’s support of the Component Object Model (COM) enables it to access and use compiled libraries such as DLLs. It has been superseded by ASP.NET, but will be supported by Internet Information Services (IIS) through at least 2022.

IIS is Internet Information Services, the web server included with Windows Server operating systems. All current versions are built on a modular architecture; modules can be added or removed individually so that those required for specific functionality are installed. The full installation of IIS includes HTTP, security, content, compression, caching, logging and diagnostics.
