I have a snap server 550 and running backup exec 11d on another server.  I want to get the BE agent installed on the snap server and I'm following their instructions for, "installing third-party agent software".

I have followed the steps and when I get to the point to enter ./INSTALL I get this:

Backup Exec UNIX Agent Install v3.7
Copyright 2001 VERITAS Software Corporation.  All Rights Reserved.

english/SETUP must be run as root equivalent.

I have no clue what this means.  Any takers?

Most likely telling you that you need to login to the snap server using the root account for the snap server.  You also want to make sure that the snap server is capable of running the agent, if it is a linux based NAS unit it may be optimized to act as a NAS and not have the full set of modules required by BE remote agent

Please check out Symantec's web site for their HCL, i don't think this will be supported officially.

I think the only version it supports is symantec ralus agent 10.  I'll have to give that a try, I did download the agent.  I will get to that end of week and report back.

I was able to install the ralus agent 10, however, it will not initialize.  I do not like SNAP servers, I'm moving data to windows storage based hardware.

good idea, most of our customers are moving away from snap servers as well, it is not a very reliable platform, especially when using products that need to use native NTFS partitions.
