Is there any edition of AS400 such as Mini SAP and Oracle Express to run in Windows for tutorial?

Dears,

I would like to learn RPG/ILE, so is there any mini program or express edition of AS400 to run on Windows.

As I know there is free version for Oracle which is Oracle XE and there is free version for SAP. All these product are used for tutorial.

Hi hasanayoub,

Because RPG is a little diferent then other languages, it's better to look for a good book, I know a lot of sites that give loads of information about the language, but all are manuals and not really a way to learn how RPG is working. You don't have to start with the ILE version, just start with any RPG version to get the idea and feeling.

Dear,

Thank for your response. In fact, I want to learn and apply what I am learning in PC. So, I want to get any IDE (Editor) for RPG ILE that would run in PC (Windows).

Best regards,

Just an editor is possible, check http://www.rpgalive.com/download.html
But afaik, you allway's need a connection and access authiority to the AS/400 for compilation and running a program.

If you like to run the complete AS/400 simulation on your PC (what is expensive) checkout the Baby/AS software http://nortoncomputerservices.com/baby400.htm

An other option is to find someone who let you use his AS/400. In the past I saw some links to people who had an as/400 at home and would share that for a really reasonable payment. I checked for you, but I can't find such a link right now.

Last option, sounds stupid but not so bad at all; buy your own (old) AS/400. if you search you can find them already round US $1.250,00 check Ebay etc, than you can really play around ant test everything.
