We are going to use Load Runner to do the performance testing in our project. I am a beginner for this subject. Customer requirement is testing a specific functionality (say login, add, delete, edit etc:) at least 1000 users.

Can anyone help to give information regarding this matter?

Answer may be depend on your load runner version.. and I am replying with my understand of your question, Please feel free to ask if this is not the case..

for 7.xx

According to the information what you have mentioned in your question, you have to test this for more than 1000 users.

You can use users with different UserID & Passwords or same login details for 1000 users (virtual users) . Because it depends on the scenario what you are going to execute.

If you want to use 1000 different logging data, you can parameterize it.

You can use the following steps to do that.

-       Identify the field to parameterize

-       Right click on the step which contains the field & Select

properties

-        Click parameter button (next to the recorded value)

-        Enter a parameter name & confirm that parameter type is

File

-       Click the properties button

-        Then click the Create button & confirm the new file

creation

-       <parameter>.dat file is added to Vuser directory

-         Click the Edit button to open the data file in Notepad

-         Enter new data in the Notepad & Press Enter after typing

each data item including the last item

-         Save the changes & close the Notepad

-         In the Parameter Properties dialog, data from the file

appears in the table.

-         Multiple columns for different parameters are allowed in the

same data file

After that you can increase the number of iterations also. [(Run time settings-Iterations) & (Select the data access method-Sequential, Random or Unique)]
