media use in Backup Exec 12

I am rotating media out of an autoloader for monthlies and weeklies.

I need to make sure that when I use the "restore" function, that those old media show up as an option to restore from. Where to I move those media to so that 8 months down the road, they show up in the media as options to restore from??

Thanks.

It is all to do with your catalog of the media, it that is missing you will not be able to see but then you have to insert tape/s and do an inventory on those media.
What I usually do is creating monthly catalog directories, this will help you when doing a restore in february you can select stop the services and start them to see them, then restore stop the services and select the current catalog directory and you all ok.

the default directory is  \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Catalogs
my monthly default directory is \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\October and so on on a monthly basis.

create folders in \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Catalogs and once done, change your catalog path to \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Catalogs\Novenmber
and restart all services and the new path will be \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Catalogs\November

this will keep all catalog data per month and so then when restoring select the old catalog path in the tools, options, settings & catalog.

Check your scratched, retired media and see maybe they are listed there if so just move them to the location which desired.
