Resetting of service logon causes service screen to hang

I recently reset the admin password on the machine and forgot there are a couple of services attached to that username/password.  When I go to the logon tab of those services and try to update the password they hang.  I have to end the services task because it will keep running.  How can I fix this?

If you can provide more details on these services, that would help.

Are you trying to change these while logged in as the Administrator?  If so, login with another account with the proper rights to do so.  Also, try doing so in safe mode and see what happens.

They are services for MSSQL 2000 and Veritas Backup exec.  I think the version is 8.5.  I am logged in as the Administrator when I do this.  I can't do it in safe mode right now, I will try later tonight.  I got the server up and running again, but had to go back to the old password.
