Unable to disable lan connection - windows server 2003

I am unable to disable the lan connection. i am getting the following error messaage.
"Error Disabling Connection- It is not possible to disable the connection at this time. This connection may have one or more protocals that do not support Plug-and-Play, or it may have been initiated by another user or system account"

its a production server with two network cards(Two ip address). i cant restart it.

If you go into device manager and uninstall the network card then reboot the server.  When the server restarts it will automatically reinstall the network card and you should then be able to disable the lan connection.

You should be aware that this may cause other undesired effects.

Here's some other things to try.

1) Make sure the drivers are up to date.
2) Make sure all windows updates are installed.
3) Try manually changing the NIC's IP/DHCP settings

If all else fails then there is a process that's tying up the nic.  A reboot may be required to stop this process, before you can disable the nic.
