Hi
I need to know a few questions about Widget/Portlets.

- What is a Portlet?
- What is the difference between a Widget and Portlet?
- Can a Widget be Integrated with a Portlet (and vice versa)?

Thanks

Good question - i think it depends upon the context, but I am not sure - to me, a portlet is internal to a specific environment, while a Widget can be used external. I administer a BEA Aqualogic Portal and the term they use is portlet, and although there is a new feature (Ensemble) package that will allow you to port certain elements out to public facing web pages, the whole point is to have a secure environment that someone has to log into to access your functionality. Portlets provide individual items of functionality that are sometimes stand-alone, and sometimes inter-related.
A widget is something you can incorporate almost anywhere, including a public or private site.
I think I started rambling a bit, but that is my thoughts.

Thanks for the response BongSoo.
Just coming back to question of Integration, can Portlets be integrated with Widgets or the Widgets to Portlets. Is there something special required to do the integration like a Standard (if possible). Also since you have mentioned BEA Aqualogic Portal, does your product provide that feature, were Portlets can be ported out to web pages as Widgets or have have widgets be integrated into the Portlets?  Sorry If I am repeating myself.

Just a screen shot of what I mean (this is old news):

Also this looks interesting, but I am new to this whole thing, it doesn't make sense to me, maybe you can explain better.

Again, I am not sure there is a difference between a portlet or a widget, so I don't know that it would be logically correct to say you can integrate one into the other when i am not really clear there is a real difference. Also, I don't sell BEA, so it isn't really my product as much as what I do for a living at the moment.
The Ensemble add-on to BEA does allow you to port Portlets out to a web page, but is it a widget or a portlet there? I admit I have no clear idea of the distinction other than my own opinion.
I'll try to take a look at those links later today.

Anyways thanks for all the information.

Sorry about the misunderstanding - around here when people say your product it usually implies that you are selling something, and usually, they don't want it! LOL! :-)
