I want to create an Entity Relationship Diagram for a database. Is there some tool within SQL Server that can generate this for me automatically?

automatically...no.  but you can create diagrams in 2005.  Open up SSMS, go to the object explorer, expand your db and the folder right under it is database diagrams.  You can create one there.
