Customization of Project 2007 with Office Customization Tool

Scenario: I have deployed Office Enterprise Edition 2007 over LAN with SMS 2003. First I have customized Office with OCT and then deploy it with SMS 2003. Now I want to deploy MS Project Pro 2007 separately with SMS 2003 but first I want to customize it for silent installation.

Problem: I am running setup of MS Project with /admin, OCT window appears, I paste its serial key but when I run the setup it asks the serial key.

Question: Is there any separate OCT for MS Project 2007?

Hi A1opus,

Are you using VLM keys for a company?

If so you must use the "Applications" key, when installing individual packages such as Visio and Project.

Thanks for the comments. It is clearly mentioned in OCT that it requires Volume License Key. I am giving Volume License key for Project Pro 2007 with Display Settings "None" but it is asking for Serial Key with this statement:

"Type your 25-character Product Key.

Although you are not required to enter your product key now, we recommend you do so far ease of validating your Microsoft Office License."

Remember, Office 2007 Ent. Ed. is already installed on the machine and Project Pro 2007 is the separate application with separate Volume License Key.

Are you leaving out the - between the key numbers/letters?

I deal with VLM keys a lot, and I have found that some keys actually expire, and you must use the new VLM keys for the current MS Agreement (for future Activations). I would suggest installing this version as a single use and make sure the key actually is accepted...

If none of this helps, let me know and I will create my own Administrative Share of Project 2007, in order to see if I run into the same issue?

Yes, when I tried to install it as stand alone installation, it works. It means keys are fine.

Yes, I am deleting hyphens and I have checked Accept Agreement.

Yep, sure sounds like the key is fine. It is definately a VLM key, and not an MSDN key?

I just created one with OCT and it worked fine, so we know its not OCT.

Do you have multiple VLM keys you can try, from previous Enterprise Agreements? Obviously it appears to be your key, but are you trying to install Project 2007 on various PC's when testing?

If you dont care if the users can see the key you can always populate the key automatically using the the .xml file

What have u created? I have created msp file just for only one machine but when I run setup it asks for a serial key. Remember, Office 2007 Ent Ed. without Visio and Project is already installed.

The OCT u used, kindly post its step by step procedure so that I can check mine.

I only configured the License portion to accept the agreement and I entered the VLM Application key.

The Config.xml file has replaced the setup.ini file used previously in Office 2003 and earlier versions. This sounds like it can complement the OCT, so just use in conjunction and specify the key within the Config.xml file, the rest will be controlled by the OCT file (e.g. .MSP).

In previous versions of Office, the Setup program read the Setup.ini file at the start of the installation process. The INI file contained information such as which product to install, which transform to apply, what display setting to use, and which additional installations to chain to the primary Office installation. Setup.ini also allowed you to set a wide range of Windows Installer properties. You edited the default Setup.ini file or created an INI file of your own to customize the installation.

Note:
If you specify conflicting settings in the OCT and in Config.xml, the setting in Config.xml takes precedence. For detailed information about the contents of the Config.xml file, see Config.xml file in the 2007 Office system.

It worked!

I was editing the previous msp file which is created for Office 2007 ent. Ed., now I have created a new one for Project Pro 2007 and it worked. :)

I object because the solutions I provided were all correct, and I put a lot of time and effort,  into this users request for support, all  to find after all this effort that it all of a sudden began to work!! I even provided solutions to bypass using the OCT, if all else failed. I even created my own OCT of Project 2007 and posted my findings, immediately after this it seemed to auto magically work for the user???
