VB.NET / MySQL performance issues

I have been trying to use VB.NET & MySQL together but notice that performance is quite poor... is this normal?

For instance, I can execute 4000 insert queries in phpmysql rather effortlessly however trying to do the same thing in VB.NET takes a long time & uses quite a bit of resources.

My question is, are .NET applications capable of performing MySQL queries with the speed of web applications written in languages such as PHP?

Hi,

This is quite normal I guess since you might be using ODBC Data Adapters to access mySQL. I am not aware of any .NET Native adapters available for the case. So it normally takes long time.My feeling is if mySQL is the choice PHP is better language together with it. As well there are some constraints wrt MYSQL wrt to profressional application development like it doesn't support RollBack/Transactions(At least a year earlier). So PGSQL is a better alternative if you really want an opensource one. This is more mature and supports transactions.

Hope this helps
