Import database into SugarCRM using API

I'm creating a database which needs to replace a existing database in sugarCRM. I know i can import a database with phpmyadmin.
My boss however, wants me to find a way to import through the API. This way the data can be checked. I have no idea how to do something like this.

Does anyone have any idea how to do this or if it's even possible? Any help would be immeasurably appreciated.

Thanks, Michael
