I have an Imac that is new and I installed Mac Office:2008. I received the error that Microsoft office needs to close. I have uninstalled the program and the same thing happens. I had the same problem the first time I opened Firefox but it worked the second time.

Try re-installing, but before trying to open it, install the updates to bring it up to ver. 12.1.2:

This problem was solved by locating the Microsoft Office 2008:Mac preferences folder and deleting it. Apparently file coruption is common in Preferences folders. (Which there are manny Preferences folders)
