Issues with Dial UP PPTP VPN from a particular office

We have an Small Business 2003 server, we have configured RRAS to terminate the PPTP coonections and our firewall forwards PPTP and GRE to servers IP. In most places this works fine, however when our users visit a particular client they are able to connect to the VPN but are unable to connect there Outlook to the exchange server or open any shares or files. They travel with company laptops that are part of the domain.
They can ping the server by IP and name and it works fine.
Sometimes after a few attempts at connecting outlook they get prompted for user credentials and then it will connect, when looking at shares it again prompts them for user credentials but when they put there user account details in it gives an error (am waiting for the users to send me screenshot) about already being connected with that username and states no domain controller could be found.
I have guessed that even though i can can ping over theVPN somthing is blocking authentication but not sure how i can prove that or how to troubleshoot.
The client whose site they visit intist that they conect to a network that has no firewall / filtering in place especially for when clients visit there office and need to get online.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
