How does the IP Block List work on an Edge Server

On our Edge Server, the IP Block List has started blocking certain IP address for our clients. I am wondering what criteria it uses to block an IP address? Is it because the Exchange Edge has detected a greater number for spam messages from that IP? Would it be safe to turn off IP Block List?

I do have the IP Block List Providers setup and looking at two RBLs right now. I still am wondering why a IP can get on the block list? I am not adding it on there. I checked the IP against the two RBLs and it does not show up.

Any thoughts on how IP get on the IP Block List. I do notice they do expire off the list in 24 hours, so it is a temporary thing.

Thanks for the help
Hi,
The RBLs are not updated by you, based upon various reports/spam generated the Servers are updated in RBLs. The RBLs that you are subcsribing to will have process being followed by them on their website you can check what they do.
Thanks
Nitin
