hi dmccurdy,
I can see that you have a lot of files missing which prolly means that you run antivirus scans and deleted the files, somewhere along those files there was prolly a HID.DLL infected so it is deleted or corrupted now.
Taken from proccess library : hid.dll is a library file for the USB interface HID, which processes user interface devices.

you can try and run a system file checker : open start->run->type in "sfc /scannow" (without the quotes)->enter
be sure to have you installation disc in your cd/dvd drive as it's gonna ask for it.
that should fix the problem.. (i am not really sure if the file checker checks for that particular file but it doesn't hurt to try).

regards,
Beli

>>>are no previous versions of HID.DLL on the computer and I cannot find a hotfix or file for vista64.<<<

I would imagine that the hid.dll on error is a 32-bit file, if so, then you need the 32-bit hid.dll file and put it in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder.
Did you install something before this started happening?

>>>you have a lot of files missing which prolly means that you run antivirus scans and deleted the files, somewhere along those files there was prolly a HID.DLL infected <<<

Those legit 023 lines with 'file missing'"are normal, those files are not really missing, it's just Hijackthis reporting them as file missing because it's looking for those in the wrong location instead of in the SysWOW64 folder in 64-bit environment.
