Command promt hangs on exit

Interesting one here. I have a user that when in Command Promt, types Exit to exit the application. After he hits enter, the cursor just flashes and Command Prompt stays open. If he clicks the X, nothing. If he hits the menu option to hit Close, nothing. Task Manager, Processes it does not show running so he can't kill cmd.exe.

He can however, continue to open up new sessions of command prompt with no problems. The system does not appear to be hung and resources are running at a minimum.

Any suggestions? Anyone see this before?

Sounds to me that CMD.EXE may be corrupted.  Have you tried running the System File Checker:  SFC  /SCANNOW

Or copying a new version from the I386 folder on XP install CD?  (It will probably be in a compressed format and named CMD.EX_  )

You were right. Corrupt cmd.exe. Replaced and all is well. Thanks.
