Resizing table columns and rows independently

I am currenlty using Expression Web.  The website I have created consists of tables.  When I try to resize a colum on the right side of the table the corresponding column on the left moves equally.  I am no web design guru wich is why I bought this product and I'm pretty proficient with it but this is one aspect of the gui I absolutely can't stand.  I want ot be able to resize a colum and not have it move/resize any other columns - like in Excel when you resize colomns or rows in a worksheet.  I'm sure there is a checkbox or setting that will allow me to do this but so far I have found no information.

P.S. Don't bother telling me to edit the code.  I bought Expression web because I haven't learned how to code yet....that will come along in time.... :-)

There are widths of columns and table width. Each of them can be defined or not - in pixels or in percent of table width.

I suppose, your table width is defined. So, when you change width of one column, this is assumed to be fix, and other columns (with undefined column widths?) are adjusted so, that table can be of its defined width.

When tables are used for defining layout of the page, it is better to define widths in pixels (and not to wide). It is because you don't know how wide monitor of your visitors will be (1024, 1280, 1600 or even more pixels).

Advices:
  • define all column widths (in pixels)
  • there is no need to define the table width
  • if you define table width, check if the column widths + borders + spacing between cells sum up to the defined table width.
