Need for /PAE switch

I have several HP DL380 servers with 4GB of memory.  But the windows property page only shows 3.50GB
On my blade servers that have 4GB of memory Wondows only shows 3.75GB of memory.
I thought the /PAE switch was only needed above 4GB.

The PAE and /3GB switches allow for more allocated memory for applications. The kernal will allocate more memory unless you put this switch in to allow for more memory to be allocated to applications.

it depends what version on windows server you are using...

please see the following for infomation on OS versions.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283037

Points to note...

- Typically, a process running under Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 can access up to 2 GB of memory address space

- When this situation occurs, the paging process increases dramatically and performance may be negatively impacted
