CRM Opportunity Record Automatic Simple ID Generation

I am looking for a way to easily get Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 to automatically generate and display on opportunity records a simple opportunity ID. I know the system automatically generates the "opportunityid" field in the database, but that is a complicated string of characters, whereas I am looking for something more straightforward such as "OPP-1", "OPP-2", and so on.

I have been struggling to come up with a creative solution to this dilemma. Any thoughts?

Take a look at this piece of freeware from crmextensions.com, I think it will help you acheive exactly what you need: Auto-Numbering Extension
There is also a blog discussion about the concept of autonumbering on Ayaz Ahmed's blog

The Auto-Numbering Extension appears to be exactly what I need; however, the blog appears interesting as well as it seems that it allows me to do it manually in case there is ever need to. Thanks for your help!
