SWF almost always takes priority in visibility and Z-index, but you should be able to put it into a DIV and toggle the visibility of that DIV, like this --

document.getElementById ('swfDiv').visibility.display = "none"  (  to hide it, and "block" to display it )

However, as soon as the SWF starts playing, it will always regain foreground, even if none, I think -- you should try it to see if that happens -- i.e. hide it with none on page load, and see if it takes foreground.

If not, you can use the visibillity on the DIV called "swfDIV" and this will work, but try it in ALL browsers to make sure, probably IE6 will not work.

Other than this, rearrange the page layout to give the SWF its own place,  OR else just load the SWF file on click of a link

Sorry, that was --
document. getElementById("swfDIV").style.display = "none";  (opposite here is "block" )

or you can use the visibility property too --
document. getElementById("swfDIV").style.visibility = "hidden";  (the opposite here is "visible" )
