no sound on youtube

I can play CD's and Itunes, but there is no sound with any youtube video. There is also no sound using IE.
This was a recent development. It was working.

I knew that there was a way I got this to work last time..

By changing sound playback option on the Audio tab from " Modem #0 Line Playback" to the Audio device.
I was able to obtain the same audio device under the "volume" tab. Now youtube works. I will see if I can give some credit for your time.

If you are in Vista:
Check the sound settings.  Right Click on speaker on your task bar.  Open Volume Control.  Go to Advanced Properties.  There just make sure that the wave volume is in a reasonable place and that Internet explorer is not muted.  I have seen causing problems.  Make sure those controls are running all at your desire.
Hope this helps you.

On IE7 under tool's go to advanced tab scroll down till you see "play web page sounds" check box, click apply.

You could also try installing Firefox and see if the same problem occurs in that browser.

Greetings hsmith!

Check the sound on the flash player at Youtube; it's on the right on the bottom. Hover your mouse and see if it's up or down; it will remember the position so make sure you slide it all the way up.

Daydream - The volume was the first thing I checked. It was in the maximum position. PwrBall - as per my statement I am using Firefox. I did try it with IE and that did not work either. Ptotocl12 - the interesting thing is that under Volume in Sounds and Audio Devices it says "No Audio Device". This is XP so I assume that similar to Vista sound control. The control panel has a icon call soundMax. I tried to run the install several times. The install program indicates install complete but it still says "No Audio Device". Note that this is an older rebuilt computer with externally powered speakers. Hope this helps.

Are there any "?" or "!" signs in Device Manager?  It sounds like a driver issue...

Not a driver issue because it used to work.

Do you have sound in any other places? Can you play music?
