Dear Impex,

From your description, there are obviously lingering components on your system from a previous install. That is causing the new install to try and upgrade those lingering components, which results in a failure. You should follow the steps in this article below to remove those old components, and then perform an install of 12.0, or 12.5.

This link gives the method to remove Backup Exec for Windows Servers (BEWS) 11d but I'm using 12. Also the windows cleanup utility is unable to see Symantec Backup Exec.

it works with back up exec 12 too, apply same steps still even in the windows clean up utility is unable to see the symentec back up exec. remove them from register and C: driver, start menue, desktop icon.......and reboot.....it will fix the problem.

now re-install it after reboot :)
