We've been using a SQL server 2000 transaction log analysis tool called SQL Log Rescue by RedGate.  It is free.  We upgraded to SQL server 2005 and the tool does not support it.  Have not been able to find another tool like it for 2005, besides ApexSQL Log, which is too expensive for us, we're a small shop.  Are there any free or low cost tools out there for SQL server 2005 transaction log analysis?

Hi,

There aren't any free tools AFAIK for SQL Server 2005, the only other product I have come across is:
http://www.quest.com/toad-for-sql-server/software-downloads.aspx

Not 100% sure if that is for 2005 though.

Other than that, you could try fn_dblog() function directly within SQL e.g.:
http://www.novicksoftware.com/udfOfWeek/Vol1/T-SQL-UDF-Volume-1-Number-27-fn_dblog.htm

Though to be honest, to get a comprehensive, user friendly tool for SQL 2005 isn't going to be cheap so I wouldn't be surprised if ApexSQL is your best bet.
