Hello,

I have strange problem in my company. I have installed separate linux machine as a proxy for clients (Squid), and everything's fine. Our SBS2003R2 server computer and proxy computer are accessing internet directly without any proxy at all.

My problem is, that when the proxy is running, WSUS registers SBS server with the IP of the proxy. When it's not running, SBS server is not registered at all. I have triple checked all IE settings, used command "proxy - d", reinstalled WSUS from scratch, and still the same problem. Please, where could be the problem?

I am including listing from WSUS client diag tool:

I am providing additional info from WindowsUpdate.log file, which shows the problem - for some unknown reason (to me) it's still trying to use the proxy!

My only question is...where the hell it did get the proxy list value from and how to remove it?

Thanks very much.

WELL, after hours of experimentation I have resolved the problem. I forgot, that sometime in the past I was tinkering with Automatic proxy detection scripts, and have these files (wpad.dat, proxy.pac, etc) in the inetpub directory. Also, the setting URL was specified in the IE automatic proxy feature,  but it was turned off (the URL was greyed out). Strange, that the system was still using information in this(these) files and trying to use proxy. After I have deleted these files, and removed (although greyed out and therefore shoul've been inactive) setting from IE, the server registered correctly. Is this a bug?

Hope this helps anyone.
