Perl beginner -- Eclipse Display view has "Display Result" icon grayed out

I have a Perl script that I have loaded into Eclipse (using the EPIC plugin).

In both the Perl perspective and the Debug perspective, I have tried to execute a command in the Display view.

However, the "Display Result" icon on the Display view is grayed out.

What do I need to do to turn enable it?

I think that view is only for use with Java, not perl.

Well that would certainly explain it.

Are you aware of any analagous view for Perl?  I can run perl from the command line, but that can potentially be a different environment.

Perhaps a plugin?  I'm currently using EPIC.

I'm not real certain what that view would do.  There is the perl expression view, which allows you to run any code in the current context of what is being debugged.  Here is the guide for EPIC, which might help:
    http://www.epic-ide.org/downloads/EPIC_User's_Guide.pdf

When I want to run some test code, what I'll do is place it at the beginning of my main program file, then put exit after it.  Then when I click the run button, it runs within EPIC.

********** The .pl file that gets run when I click the run button
#!/usr/bin/perl
use strict;
use warnings;
#use some other module

#I add my test code here
exit;

#my normal code is here

Open in new window

Thank you.  That's a creative response to a question whose answer is almost "you can't do that".  Thank you for taking the time to guide me.  I'll remember that trick.
