Alternate address is not being presented to Web Interface users only the internal ip address

I have a four server farm.  Two of the servers host web servers.  I have users who access the farm from a public interface from a natted private address.  The farms public address is natted to a private address.  I have set the alternate IP address on the farm.  The user is able to log on to the WI  successfully and the application launces correctly but the ica file has to be edited to add the external address.  What have I missed.  It appears that the  default address is the private address but the altaddr command produces the correct address.  I just need the ica to present the public IP address.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I think you should do some configuration in your DNS.
You can add a record in your DNS with alternate address and this will help you to present another IP to the external users.(use CNAME)
