we are using Outlook 2007 with an exchange server and the setup is cached mode. Our company does not utilize a local area network so this is over HTTPS. One of my users is stating that he notices a delay (within the preview pane) of about 30 seconds when he tries to switch between e-mails that have an attachment. This is a new issue for this person. What should I try first?

yes this is the way it is if you are using a slow connection. even with a medium to fast connection there will be a delay downloading the mail.
i can only recomend to download just the headders, then the user can say if they want to download the rest.
unfortunatly this is by design and cannot do much about it.
are they using dial up or a slow line?

Bertling: The user is not using dialup, no. I emailed your suggestion for him to try the headers only option. Un(fortunately?) the user wasn't having any problems at the time I sent the suggestions via email.

i can tell you we get this in out organisation. in countries with offices with unstable connection like brazil and cairo suffer with this and the only solution really is to ask them to get a faster line. but in countries like this isnt that easy.
