Deskjet 460c reports carriage jam

My deskjet 460c is reporting a carriage jam. There is no paper stuck in this printer. How can I clear or reset so that the carriage jam clears?  Thanks

Rather than assume you've done the basic paper jam clearing, here are the instructions from HP

The following instructions are from HP on how to "remove the print cartridges after a carriage jam", which will also clear the carriage jam.  It's not really jammed, it locks into place after it stalls.

I am not assuming, there is no paper jam. I tried both of the above already. When you turn this printer on the carriage does not move to a postion as it does on other 460's. Then the power light and resume light both blink.

That was misunderstood - I should have said "Rather than me assuming you've ..." - my apologies, I did not mean to imply you were assuming there was no paper jam.

If you've moved the wiper forward as indicated in the second link, and the problem still persists - then you have a sensor issue or a board issue.  You can try to find a new board for it, but cost-wise you're better off replacing the unit than the board.

No problem :)  Even when I open lid the carriage does not come to the center....

Open the second link.  Look where their arrow indicates in the first picture - their "wiper assembly" will be in the back position, with the cartridges on the far side of it.  With the wiper assy in the back position, it blocks the cartridges from coming forward.  Unplug the power from your unit, lift the lids, then reach in and push the wiper assy toward the front of the printer.  It should lock into the forward position.  Close the lids back up, plug the power back in, and lift the lid.  The cartridges should then slide to their normal "replace" position.

nope.....it has seen better days...only a year old and not really used....hard to believe its shot

Those portables sometimes get bounced around quite a bit.  We had some that were in-vehicle usage and didn't last a year.  Then on the other hand, I still have a couple of the old 340s that are hanging in there.  Like anything electronic - sometimes they last, and sometimes they don't.  

At the price, they just aren't worth trying to repair.
