Unable to write media is protected (DLT-IV)
Hello Experts!
I bough the Quantum External tape drive DTLVS160 in order to work with my tapes DLT-IV (before I had the DEll powervault T122 but crashed and no way to fix it) ...while trying to start using them I find out that I'm unable to use - recycle my old tapes (that's the reason I had stick with this kind of tapes devices). When I went to try using my old media tapes, after doing the inventory the software shows the following error:
"The media in drive 'QUANTUM ' is currently locked. Unlock the write protect tab to write to this media.
Note: The write protected condition may be caused by media that is not write compatible with the drive."
So I went to research a solution and find out that....
"The only way to remove the existing formatting on the tape so that it can be used by a DLT1 or DLT VS80 tape drive for backup operations is to magnetically erase the tape to return it to a "fresh" state. This process is called degaussing and requires special equipment known as a degausser. A degausser is sometimes also referred to as a bulk eraser"
So I was wondering if, is possible to buy a cheap degausser in order to recycle my tapes?..I found the Radio Shack (Realistic) Magnetic Bulk Tape Eraser, model # 44-232...
Do you know if this equipment will work with my tapes?
