Is your image uploader a flash control?

If it is, there is a special flash variable that you have to set to allow it to work with z-index.

wmode = 'opaque';   // Solid background to Flash control, but it does work with z-index.
wmode = 'transparent'; // Transparent background to contorl, and again works with z-index.

wmode = 'window';  // Flash control has its very own window, and thus does NOT work with z-index. (Default)

Fantastic, I am glad you managed to solve your problem. That's quite interesting, I didn't realize that you could use iframes to get around this issue.
