Windows Search 4.0 problems

After reinstalling Windows Search 4.0 for a user on an XP system, this message is displayed after each query: "Windows Search isn't running. To start it, click  START, then ALL PROGAMS, Windows Search."

The application logs show this error: Event ID 1006

"The Windows Search Service has failed to created the new system catalog. Internal error <7,0x80071126>. "

The service is set to automatic, but it not started.  If you start the service, it stops itself.

I have uninstalled win search 4, installed 3 (which worked, but the client wants 4), then installed 4--same problem.  I've also uninstalled 4 and reinstalled it--same problem.  Now, after uninstalling 4, I can not install 3 again.  After the installer runs it says "Install could not be completed"

What you might want to do is uninstall the WS4.0 and then run ccleaner. www.ccleaner.com.
You can also try the Windows Installer Cleanup tool.

Have you checked in the msconfig utility to make sure that the server is not turned off from there?
