PB-install
I downladed PB 11.1 from sybase subscriber network and tried to install on my machine.
I unzipped the files.
I ran "autorun", installshield,
then selected "standalone seat- local license"
then a screen popped out saying
"to contiune you must provide a valid license key"
I went to the field where it says you can enter it and it is disabled. It shows the host id and computer name but i could not enter the CD key/registration no. I created a text file "pb.lic" and entered the number and load it from file and it said the file is incorrect format.
any hints on how i can install successfully.

do you put the serial number in this
In the website (of Sybase) you put in your host name and MAC Address and it will generate a .lic file for you. This is the new licensing method being employed by Powerbuilder. so the MAC Address, the host name and the license should match in order for your PB to work.

would this work on any machine or it has to be on some aproved list by sybase.
it will work with any machine. BUT you need to give Sybase your MAC Address of your computer. If you use the same serial number you generate for a certain computer on a different computer then it will not work. But if you purchased two licenses then you can generate two LIC files. One for each computer.
If you uninstall your PB and install it to another PC (therefore a different MAC Address), then you need to re-register your new PC and get a new LIC file. But Sybase will only allow you to "move" your registered installation from one computer to another for a number of times in a given period. For short you cannot keep on requesting for a new LIC file. Again, not unless you have purchased multiple license.

did they start this new for all downloads. I assume if you have the 10.5 CDs you do not need all of this. You can just key in the license number.

Go back to the site where you downloaded PB 11.1. There should be a link there where you could generate a .LIC file. It is much easier than creating your own .LIC file.
