I am installing Oracle 11G on Windows XP. I am installing Standard Edition. During the installation configuration, I get an error ORA-12638: Credential retrieval failed (Ignore/Abort). Any ideas on what settings may be causing this or how I can get 11g installed without this error causing the install process to abort?

Please check the sqlnet.ora file. Change the following entry and reply with your results.

Original Entry - SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)

Modified Entry - SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE)

This is happening during install so it never reaches the point where I can change those files. It fails during install. I have researched and thought I could change those settings, but this does not work. I am starting to think it may be a domain issue?

The way around this was to log in to the server with a local server administrator account and then run the installation. It appears there was a conflict with installing while logged directly into the domain.
