Starting to pull my hair out on this so hope someone can help.
I have been entrusted with the task of replacing a Windows 2000 server running as a DC with a Windows 2008 server. Ran through the usual adprep on the 2000 server, had problems with the 2008 registering with DNS until I enabled dynamic updates. Can ping each way using short and long names. Added 2008 as member server however when I run DCPROMO on 2008 I get the following message-Windows Security:
Operation failed because a domain controller could not be contacted for the domain vec.local that contained an account for this computer. Make the computer a member of the workgroup and then rejoin before retrying the promotion.
"Access is denied"
I have tried the suggested steps and no joy.
Alternative is to start from scratch which is a huge task.
Any help would be appriciated.
