Using Pinnacle Studio 11 and Moviebox 510 USB to capture analog video and get message "a valid input signal has not been detected"

I connect my camcorder to the moviebox 510 as instructed and have all the parameters set correctly in Studio 11 but still get the error message above; occasionally I get some video to show in the preview screen but it is garbled; my computer is a relatively new HP desktop running Windows Vista 32 bit with SP1; I also tried to run the software on a laptop with the XP operating system with the same results.  The moviebox and studio 11 work with a digital camera.

Check your analogue source camera/VHS is working correctly -- use a monitor to check it.

I tried another camcorder, tried the software on a different computer, changed the cable, tried a digital source through the moviebox 510 which works.  I now seem to be able to get video in the preview screen but it is pretty garbled

I also just reinstalled the Studio software and the drivers.

I saw something on the web about problems with USB video capture devices in Vista that was supposed to be fixed in SP1 which I have

there`s an awful lot of audio and video noise in the preview picture - is it possible that I need a better shielded cable from the moviebox to the computerÉ

You may need to update the driver for Vista. There's a driver here. Make sure whether you are running 32bit or 64 bit before downloading driver. Choose Pinnacle USB 510 USB Moviebox.

I downloaded and installed the driver and it didn't seem to make any difference - the driver seems to be the same for XP and Vista 32 bit though.

It looks like this was the right advice - I am using 2 analog camcorders and they both have a problem with the output when I hooked them to a monitor.  One of them probably just has dirty heads but the other seems to have some signal noise in the output.  Thanks for your help.
