When installing 2008 SQL Express it fails with the following error in the sql_engine_core_inst_Cpu32_1.log file

Specified instance {B8E9F8A1-9F4D-43D5-ABD6-1DF067FAA469} via transform :InstID02.mst;:InstName01.mstInstName01 is already installed. MSINEWINSTANCE requires a new instance that is not installed.
